Since my admission into DSB, Pali has become an essential part of my life year at DSB and my IB CAS programme.
Even though DSB’s association with the Pali school started with an IAYP project, it has blossomed into so much more. In the two years I have been a part of it, I have seen it grow from strength to strength and it is now the major service activity for students of all age groups.
We endeavoured to learn concepts such as social entrepreneurship, social awareness and environmental friendliness. These are some of the concepts not taught to the students in their academic curriculum and helps us to holistically develop as students and as human beings.
It has now become a weekly afterschool activity in which students, develop their ideas and find ways to increase donations/ establish the Pali school as a school that requires funds and that it isn't just another charity drive. That is something, I feel the students need to believe in order to convince the people they speak to.
I personally become engaged into this project after my first trip to the school where I met a large number of the students and really took in and tried to understand their culture and where they have come from. Thereafter, I have helped to organise numerous trips in which we have completed so many activities such as sports day, repainting the lunch hall and multimedia and science presentations. By participating in these cross curricular activities we also learnt a lot about their way of living and their value systems.
In sum, this project has massive potential and is gaining appeal in school. It has been my honor to be a part of this project, I am proud of what we have been able to achieve. Starting the corporate funding for this project was my personal goal for this project and I am very happy to have been able to do that as I truly do believe that even small amounts of effort leads to more.
I have tried to be a small chapter of this tremendous story and I can not wait to see how this story writes itself in the future.
