Thursday Evening saw the rst ever Aurum House Drama and Music performances that for many marked a real milestone in the development of DSB. Students have been involved in the Drama ECA all year and during this time have written and developed the play - a modern synthesis of two famous tales: Rapunzel and Hansel and Gretel.

In this modern take Rapunzel was transformed into a sele obsessed teen imprisoned by a doting warlock. An attempted rescue by the foppish - leaf obsessed Prince Thebathtien was tragically foiled by the warlock to much comic effect and the whole performance was brilliantly pulled together by the sardonic wit of the Narrator.

Hansel and Gretel stuck with pantomime tradition - making a fantastic Wicked stepmother Dame and the Best Boy Hansel. Again skillful and witty narration kept the audience laughing out loud. There were lots of nerves and anxiety during the preparations but the old cliche of it will be alright on the night came true again and we all enjoyed highly amusing and original theatrical pieces.

The second half of the event was lled with a range of ne ensemble performances from students across the school who have been receiving music lessons from the teachers from Swirl Music. Every Tuesday they have worked with years 7 - 9 teaching them drums, keyboards, guitar and vocals, whilst after school they worked with groups of students from all years developing performances. The nal night consisted of an exciting selection of music from classic heavy rock, accompanied by virtuoso rock guitar performances from our own resident Rock God, to the latest pop tunes. There were great duets showcasing amazing vocal talents, some upbeat, some bittersweet and some heart warming love songs. There were also some enjoyable ensemble pieces which cleverly blended the skills of some of our nest vocalists with novice percussionists, guitarists and keyboard players enabling all to be involved in spectacular performances. Students sang and played with real conviction even though many were suffering from nerves, and there is a huge desire for them to do this again.
