A vertical school in the centre of South Mumbai, Aurum House is designed to foster teamwork and collaboration. Designed by Education Design Associates in Bangalore, in collaboration with Fielding-Nair in the United States, Aurum House makes pedagogy visible. Modern, research-driven principles of effective teaching and learning are built into the design of the school, creating an open environment that encourages students and teachers to work together as a team. Moving beyond the traditional ‘cells and bells’ school format, Aurum House has few isolated classrooms and almost no doors. Shared learning spaces combined with cozy cave spaces work together to give Senior Primary and the Secondary School students the independence they need to acquire the life-long learning skills that help them achieve academically and in their future careers.
A TEDx Talk of Prakash Nair, the founder of Fielding Nair was recently published. Please click here to find out more about modern school design.
Aurum House also has three state-of-the art modular science laboratories designed by Waldner of Germany. These labs offer a rich and substantive science programme in Chemistry, Biology and Physics, as well as giving the students flexible learning spaces.
A fully-equipped music room offers students the opportunity to extend their knowledge of keyboards, piano, drums, guitar, and electric guitar. Interested students at DSB can also try their hand at music production and singing.
The rooftop play area, with a beautiful view of Chowpatty Beach and Marine Drive, provides an outdoor space for some sport and break-time activities.
